Analysis of political communication on social networks during the election of the president of the Czech Republic in 2023

This thesis focuses on the political communication of selected candidates for the office of the President of the Czech Republic at the end of the pre-election period on the social networks Facebook and Twitter. The selected candidates include Danuše Nerudová, Andrej Babiš and Petr Pavel, who had the highest electoral potential at the end of the election. The thesis aims to describe and analyse their political communication on social networks, with the analysis of personalisation and negative political communication in the posts being the core themes of the thesis. In the theoretical part, personalisation and negative political communication are set in a broader framework of knowledge, based on the development of political communication and its current trends. Based on the results of the thesis, the ways of conducting political communication of selected candidates are further compared in relation to the thematic focus of the analysis. A quantitative content analysis of the selected social networks of the three political candidates was determined for this research, which provides answers to the set research questions and hypotheses.
Content analysis of Twitter comments towards selected male and female candidates in the 2023 presidential election

This bachelor's thesis analyzes Twitter comments under the posts of three selected candidates during the 2023 presidential election. The goal is to map whether there are differences between emotions, gender stereotypes, or topics towards a particular candidate's gender, and whether these variables change reflecting the gender of Twitter users. Thematic content analysis is chosen as the research method. Data are manually collected on the Twitter platform for candidate posts. Three dates during the last month before the first round of elections are chosen for data collection. A coding method is further used for the analysis of the collected data. The results respond to six pre-selected hypotheses. The analysis is divided into three parts - a message emotion, gender aspect and progress in time. In the first part, it is shown that more comments with negative sentiment are aimed towards the female candidate, and it does not matter whether the comment is written by an anonymous or non-anonymous user. In the second part, it is confirmed that more comments with a gender aspect are aimed towards the female candidate, and they are mostly focused on appearance. The diploma thesis Content changes of Reflex weekly according to the influence of its editors in chief focuses on the changes which this Czech magazine has gone through from its founding in 1990 to 2013 - during these twenty three years the position of editor in chief changed six times, passing from one person to another. The development of this thesis was based on the supposition that each of the personalities has left their mark on the magazine and has influenced its content according to their experience and preferences. In the theoretical part, the thesis deals with history of the magazine, with changes of editors in chief, the publishers, visual aspects, with the composition of editorial team or magazine sections and also with magazine's direct competitors and the number of editions sold. The following chapter focuses on the theoretical context of the research and refers to the analytical part. Terms as neutrality, negativity and agenda settings are being defined here and the impact of commercialization on visual aspect of the print media is being discussed in this chapter as well. Diploma thesis The Rate of Negativity in Miloš Zeman's and Karel Schwarzenberg' Reflection in Media during Presidential Election in 2013 analyses the rate of negativity in the news production of three national newspapers - Mladá fronta Dnes, Lidové noviny and Právo - about these presidential candidates. Time range setting is one month before first round of presidential election and one month after first round of presidential election. The presidential election in January of 2013 was completely different from previous presidential elections. People voted in a direct presidential election. It was very important event, in which the media were very interested. Press, television and radio broadcasting were filled with presidential election, candidates, debates and many reflections. Media have taken it a bit contradictory. Apart from the ordinary information that were important for the public knowledge, the media resorted to the kind of media storm. The diploma thesis is dealing with theoretical concept of negativity and investigates its concrete form on the concept of "antibabisism". The thesis refers to concepts of negativity in general, negativity in media content and also to negativity in political media content. Individual research of the thesis focuses on quantitative content analysis in a few selected czech media and also tries to confirm or reject existence of "antibabisism" in media and politics.
Accidents and catastrophes in totalitarian media

The aim of the dissertation "Accidents and Disasters in the Totalitarian Media" is to describe and compare the way how daily press in communist Czechoslovakia informed about transport and industrial accidents that happened in Eastern and Western Bloc. In the practical part, the media coverage of pairs of similar accidents that happened in a short time period (one in Eastern Bloc, the other in Western Bloc) will be analysed. The theoretical part deals with negativity from the view of media studies as well as other social sciences.
Media and negative political campaign: czech parliamentary election in 2013

The main objective of the thesis is to analyse the role of selected Czech dailies and online news servers during the assertion of negative political campaigns before Czech parliamentary elections in 2013. The research led to answering the question, how were the newspapers, in comparison to the servers, concerned with the transfer of negative contents performed by Czech political subjects during the period of election campaigning. As the source of analysed data, the thesis used dailies Mlada fronta Dnes and Pravo and online news servers Aktualne.cz and iHNed.cz. The thesis observed a share of negative evaluative remarks in the news content dealing with the topic of Czech political campaign which was concerned with the negative campaigning of Czech political parties, as well as the way in which was this topic commented by the selected media. Crucial part of the thesis is a comparison of the parliamentary elections of 2013 with the preceding elections of 2006 and 2010. The aim was to show how the elections of 2013 fit in a trend of utilisation of negative political communication in Czech setting and how has changed the media coverage of the phenomenon during the observed years.
